Hybird supports integration with external energy meters for sites that need whole-building or sub-meter consumption data in addition to per-breaker measurements. The supported models are the Carlo Gavazzi EM530, EM540, and EM340.
When to use an external meter
External meters are used when:
You need to measure total building consumption at the main incomer (where Hybird breakers are not installed).
You need to measure a large feeder circuit that uses a breaker larger than Hybird's smart breaker range.
The site requires measurement of circuits that cannot have their existing breakers replaced with Hybird breakers.
Supported models
Model Type Application Carlo Gavazzi EM530 Three-phase with neutral, direct connect up to 65A Smaller three-phase incomers Carlo Gavazzi EM540 Three-phase with neutral, CT (current transformer) input Larger three-phase incomers via CTs Carlo Gavazzi EM340 Three-phase with neutral, CT or direct General purpose three-phase metering
Connection
The external meter connects to the Hybird Edge Controller via RS485, sharing the same bus as the Hybird breakers. The meter communicates using Modbus RTU, the same protocol used by Hybird breakers.
Physical wiring:
Connect the meter's RS485 terminals (A and B) to the RS485 daisy chain, maintaining correct polarity.
The meter occupies a Modbus address on the bus like any other device.
Install current transformers (CTs) on the relevant conductors if using a CT-input model (EM540 or EM340 with CTs).
Configuration
External meters require manual configuration at two levels: on the meter hardware itself, and in Hybird OS.
On the meter:
Set the Modbus address to 120 or higher. Addresses below 120 are reserved for Hybird breakers (1-80) and system use (81-119). If you have multiple external meters, use sequential addresses from 120 (e.g., 120, 121, 122).
If using a CT-input model, configure the current transformer ratio on the meter itself (e.g., 200/5, 300/5, 600/5). This is set through the meter's built-in display or configuration interface - not in Hybird OS.
In Hybird OS:
Contact Hybird support to register the meter in the system. Provide the meter model, Modbus address, CT ratio (if applicable), and a description of what the meter is measuring.

Other meter models
Additional external meter models may be supported in the future. Currently, only the Carlo Gavazzi EM530, EM540, and EM340 are supported in the system. If you need to integrate a different meter, contact Hybird support to discuss options.
Data in Hybird OS
Once configured, the external meter's data appears in Hybird OS alongside the breaker data, providing a complete picture of the site's electricity consumption.
