Overview
After adding a new breaker, RCD, or meter to an existing Hybird installation, the device may not appear to be reporting measurements in the Hybird Portal, and any attempt to control it (such as flipping a breaker) may fail with an error. This is almost always caused by the controller not yet having received an updated device list from the platform · which happens automatically on the next controller reboot. The fix is straightforward and does not require any changes to wiring or addressing.
Symptom
One or more of the following, affecting a newly added device:
No measurements appearing in the Hybird Portal for the new device, even though it has been correctly addressed and added to the panel in the app.
Attempting to control the device (e.g. switch a breaker on or off) fails with an error message: "Command execution failed: This device does not exist in the topology"
The device appears to be correctly installed, addressed, and visible elsewhere, but the controller is not responding to it.
Applies to
All Hybird installations where a new device (Hybird RCBO, Hybird MCB, Hybird RCD, or external meter) has been added to an existing panel.
Possible causes
Controller not yet synchronised with the platform (most likely). The controller holds an internal list of devices it should poll and accept commands for. This list is updated when the controller receives a synchronisation command from the platform · which is sent automatically when the controller boots. If the controller has not been rebooted since the new device was added and registered, it is unaware of the new device and will ignore it.
Device not yet added to the installation in the app. If the device was wired and addressed on the bus but not yet added through the Hybird mobile app or Hybird Portal, the platform itself has no record of it. In this case, rebooting the controller will not help · the device must be added to the installation first.
Addressing or wiring fault. If the device has an incorrect Modbus address or a wiring issue on the RS485 bus, it will not communicate regardless of synchronisation state. See the diagnosis steps below to rule this out.
Diagnosis steps
Confirm the device is registered in the installation. Open the Hybird Portal or Hybird mobile app and check whether the new device appears in the panel layout. If it does not appear, it has not been added to the installation · add it via the app before proceeding.
Confirm the device is correctly addressed. Check that the device has a unique Modbus address and that no other device on the bus shares the same address. If re-addressing is needed, use the Hybird mobile app to reassign the address. See Modbus ID assignment and device addressing.
Confirm basic RS485 wiring. Verify the daisy chain is intact, all terminals are secure, and the device is powered. The device LED should be blue (idle/off) or red (on/active) under normal conditions.
If the device is registered in the installation and the wiring and addressing look correct, the controller simply needs to be rebooted to synchronise with the platform.
Resolution
Confirm the new device has been added to the installation in the Hybird mobile app or Hybird Portal. If it has not, add it now before rebooting.
Reboot the Hybird Edge Controller. See Rebooting the Hybird Edge Controller · procedure guide for the correct method for your controller model.
After the controller comes back online, allow a few minutes for measurements to begin appearing. The time varies depending on the number of devices in the panel, network connectivity, and RS485/Modbus bus conditions.
Verify the new device is now reporting in the Hybird Portal and that commands (if applicable) are accepted.
Prevention
After adding any new device to an existing Hybird installation, make it standard practice to reboot the controller before leaving the site. This ensures the controller's device list is synchronised with the platform and confirms end-to-end operation of the new device before handover.
When to escalate
If rebooting the controller does not resolve the issue · the device still does not report after a few minutes, or commands still fail · contact Hybird support at [email protected] or +45 3020 4900. Provide the installation ID, the Modbus address of the affected device, and a description of what the Hybird Portal shows for that device.
Summary
When a newly added device is not reporting or cannot be controlled, the most likely cause is that the controller has not yet received an updated device list from the platform. Rebooting the controller triggers this synchronisation automatically. Confirm the device is registered in the installation and correctly addressed before rebooting, and allow a few minutes after the reboot for measurements to appear.
