Seasonal changes in savings

Your Hybird Optimisation savings will vary throughout the year. This is normal and expected. Here is why.

Winter

Winter typically offers the highest savings potential for several reasons:

  • Higher price volatility: Electricity demand peaks in winter due to heating, lighting, and shorter days. This creates larger spreads between cheap and expensive hours.

  • Larger flexible loads: Electric heating, heat pumps, and hot water heating consume more energy in winter, providing more load to shift to cheaper hours.

  • Greater absolute savings: Because both the price spread and the volume of flexible load are larger, the absolute DKK savings tend to be highest in winter months.

Summer

Summer typically shows lower savings:

  • Lower price volatility: Reduced heating demand and higher solar generation tend to flatten prices, creating smaller spreads between hours.

  • Smaller flexible loads: Heating loads are minimal. The remaining flexible loads (ventilation, water heating) are smaller in volume.

  • Possible negative prices: During periods of high renewable generation and low demand, spot prices can go near zero or even negative. There is less room for optimisation savings, when prices are already very low.

Transition months (spring and autumn)

Spring and autumn fall between the extremes. Savings depend on weather patterns (a cold April will look more like winter; a warm October will look more like summer) and wind conditions (high wind output increases price volatility).

What this means for you

Do not judge your Hybird Optimisation performance based on a single month. A full year gives the most accurate picture of savings. If you are concerned about a particular month, check the Hybird OS dashboard to see whether the system is actively optimising. If breakers are switching, the system is working correctly even if absolute savings are lower due to market conditions.

For reference, the average spot price in Denmark in 2025 was approximately 2.50 DKK per kWh including taxes, but individual months varied significantly.
