Wiring overview — three-phase panel

This article describes the wiring architecture for a three-phase Hybird installation.

Three-phase breaker options

For three-phase circuits, use:

  • Hybird RCBO 4P (HY-RCBO):Four-pole, provides overcurrent and earth leakage protection for all three phases plus neutral.

  • Hybird MCB 3P or 4P (HY-MCB):Three or four-pole, overcurrent protection only. Use with an upstream Hybird RCD for earth leakage protection.

Single-phase circuits within the same panel can use 2-pole RCBOs as normal.

Phase distribution

In a three-phase panel, circuits are distributed across phases L1, L2, and L3. Aim for balanced loading across all three phases. Hybird OS reports voltage, current, and power per phase for three-phase breakers, making it easy to monitor phase balance after installation.

RS485 wiring

The RS485 bus wiring is identical to single-phase installations: a daisy-chain from the controller through all breakers, using the pre-cut wire supplied in each package (rated 110°C / 600V). Three-phase breakers use the same RS485 connection as single-phase breakers - the number of electrical poles does not affect the communication wiring.

Mixed panels

It is common to have a mix of single-phase and three-phase circuits in the same panel. All breakers (2P RCBOs, 4P RCBOs, MCBs of any pole count, RCDs) share the same RS485 bus and connect to the same controller. The controller treats each breaker individually regardless of its pole configuration.

Upstream protection

If using Hybird MCBs without individual earth leakage protection, install a Hybird RCD upstream. The RCD can protect a group of MCBs. For three-phase installations with variable frequency drives (VFDs), EV chargers, or photovoltaic inverters, use a Type B RCD to detect smooth DC leakage currents.

Three-phase data in Hybird OS

For three-phase breakers, Hybird OS reports measurements separately for each phase:

  • Phase A voltage, current, active power, reactive power

  • Phase B voltage, current, active power, reactive power

  • Phase C voltage, current, active power, reactive power

  • Total active power (sum of all phases)

  • Total reactive power (sum of all phases)

  • Leakage current (total)

  • Temperature
