Hybird system minimum order and configuration guide

Overview

To deploy a working Hybird system, you need more than just breakers. This guide explains the minimum components required for a complete installation, optional additions, and how to configure systems with multiple panels or high breaker counts.

Minimum system components

Every Hybird installation requires at least these core components:

  1. 1 × Edge Controller (ICO-C or ICO-CO): 1,499 DKK ex. VAT. The central device that communicates with all breakers over the RS485 daisy-chain and with the Hybird OS Platform via Ethernet and/or LTE.

  2. 1 × Power supply unit (PSU): 219 DKK ex. VAT. Supplies 24V DC to the controller. Sold separately.

  3. At least 1 × Hybird breaker: Any RCBO, MCB, or RCD in the available range. A panel with no breakers connected to the controller is not operational.

Optional: Uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

A UPS (699 DKK ex. VAT, Lithium-ion battery) provides backup power to the controller if mains power fails. This allows:

  • The controller to stay online and log faults.

  • Continued monitoring and alerting until mains power is restored.

UPS is highly recommended for critical installations (hospitals, data centres, industrial plants) and optional for residential installations. Sold individually through the webshop.

One controller per panel

Each physical distribution panel requires its own controller. The controller can manage up to 80 breakers on a single RS485 daisy-chain. 80 is the practical limit where it is recommended to add another controller; 247 is the theoretical Modbus limit.

Multi-panel sites

Large installations with multiple electrical panels require multiple controllers, one per panel.

  • Connectivity mix: Controllers at the same site can use different connectivity methods — one panel on Ethernet, another on LTE, whatever suits each panel's situation.

  • Unified monitoring: In the Hybird OS Platform, all panels appear under a single site account, allowing you to view and control all breakers across all panels from one interface.

  • Naming convention: Assign clear panel names (e.g. "Main Distribution Panel", "Sub-panel A", "Sub-panel B").

  • Addressing: Each panel has its own controller with its own Modbus ID address space (1–80 per controller).

Hybird Connect: mandatory cloud service

Hybird Connect is mandatory for all installations. It provides cloud connectivity and enables the Hybird OS Platform.

  • Price: 49 DKK ex. VAT per month per controller (588 DKK/year, invoiced annually).

  • Scope: Per controller. Multi-panel sites have multiple Connect subscriptions.

  • Minimum contract term: 12 months.

What is included:

  • Secure connection between the controller and the Hybird OS Platform

  • Remote access to monitor breakers in real time

  • Data logging of breaker status, trip events, and measurements

Hybird Service: optional managed monitoring

Hybird Service adds the 12 monitoring, protection, and management features on top of Connect.

  • Price: 499 DKK ex. VAT per month per installation (in addition to Connect).

  • Alert channels: Email and SMS. Push notifications are not yet supported.

  • Scope: Standard terms as for ordering other electrical components. The Contractor is required for anything outside of usual component delivery.

Hybird Optimisation: optional AI-driven cost reduction

Hybird Optimisation is a separate product contracted directly between Hybird and the end-customer. It requires an active Service subscription. Typical savings are approximately 30%. See the Hybird Optimisation article for details.

Network requirements

Ethernet connectivity (ICO-C)

  • Cable: Standard Cat-5e or Cat-6 Ethernet cable

  • Connection: Single RJ-45 port on the controller. PoE (Power over Ethernet) is not supported — the PSU is required.

  • Bandwidth: Minimum 1 Mbps broadband

LTE cellular connectivity (ICO-CO and ICO-C)

Every Hybird Edge Controller ships with a pre-configured SIM card provided by Hybird HQ — this applies even when the site will primarily use Ethernet or Wi-Fi, to provide connectivity redundancy.

Choosing breakers for each circuit

RCBO

Use for: Circuits requiring both overcurrent and earth leakage protection (most circuits).

  • Available ratings: 2-pole (6–100 A), 4-pole (10–100 A)

  • Sensitivities: 30 mA, 100 mA, 300 mA

  • Curves: C curve is standard stock; B curve is made-to-order (~4-week lead time)

MCB

Use for: Circuits requiring overload and short-circuit protection only, where RCD is provided separately upstream.

  • Available configurations: 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P

  • Curves: B or C

RCD

Use for: Earth leakage protection in combination with MCBs. An RCD in isolation (without downstream MCBs) is not useful — the installer chooses how to combine components.

  • Available models: HY-RCD-R252P3B, HY-RCD-R404P3B, HY-RCD-R634P3B

  • Sensitivities: 30 mA, 100 mA, 300 mA

  • Type: Type B is standard stock. Type A is made-to-order.

Example: typical residential installation

A typical single-family home with a single-phase supply might order:

  • 1 × ICO-C Edge Controller (1,499 DKK)

  • 1 × PSU (219 DKK)

  • 1 × RCBO 32 A, C curve, 2P, 30 mA (main distribution)

  • 4 × RCBO 16 A, C curve, 2P, 30 mA (lighting, sockets, kitchen)

  • Hybird Connect subscription (49 DKK/month, 588 DKK/year)

Monthly cost: Connect only, unless Hybird Service is added.

Example: small commercial installation

A small office with three-phase supply and active Service might order:

  • 1 × ICO-CO Edge Controller (1,499 DKK)

  • 1 × PSU (219 DKK)

  • 1 × UPS (699 DKK)

  • 1 × RCBO 63 A, C curve, 4P, 30 mA (main distribution)

  • 6 × RCBO 20 A, C curve, 2P, 30 mA (office circuits)

  • 2 × RCBO 32 A, C curve, 4P, 300 mA (three-phase equipment)

  • Hybird Connect (49 DKK/month) + Hybird Service (499 DKK/month) = 548 DKK/month total

Ordering checklist

Before placing your order, confirm:

  • Number of breakers: Count the circuits. If more than 80, you need multiple controllers (one per panel).

  • Supply type: Single-phase (2P), three-phase (4P), or a mix?

  • Protection requirements: RCBO for every circuit, or MCB with upstream RCD? Sensitivity (30/100/300 mA)?

  • Connectivity: Ethernet available (ICO-C), or LTE required (ICO-CO)? Both will ship with pre-configured LTE redundancy.

  • Service level: Hybird Connect is mandatory. Hybird Service is optional.

  • UPS: Required for critical applications.

Summary

A minimum Hybird system costs approximately 2,000 DKK in hardware (controller + PSU) plus breakers. Every site requires Hybird Connect (49 DKK/month per controller, invoiced annually).
