Remote breaker control as a Service customer

Hybird Service includes the ability to remotely switch individual breakers on or off through Hybird OS. This article explains how it works, who can use it, and what is logged.

How remote switching works

When you issue a switch command in Hybird OS, the instruction travels from the platform to your Hybird Edge Controller via the internet, and from the controller to the specific breaker via RS485. The breaker's internal switching mechanism engages, and the circuit is either energised (on) or de-energised (off).

The switch command is confirmed back through the same path - the breaker's state change is reported to the controller and then to Hybird OS, updating the dashboard.

Who can switch

Remote switching requires appropriate permissions in Hybird OS. Not all users have switching access by default. Permissions are configured at the account level:

  • Admin users:Full access, including remote switching.

  • Standard users:May have read-only access (monitoring and reporting but no switching).

Contact your installer or Hybird support to adjust user permissions.

Audit trail

Every remote switch command is logged in Hybird OS with:

  • The user who issued the command.

  • The breaker that was switched.

  • The action (on or off).

  • The timestamp.

This audit trail provides accountability and can be used for reporting and compliance purposes.

Safety notes

  • Remote switching de-energises or energises real electrical circuits. It is essential to ensure that no one is working on a circuit before switching it on remotely. The breakers are marked clearly with "

  • If a breaker has tripped due to a fault, switching it back on remotely may cause it to trip again immediately if the fault has not been cleared.

  • Remote switching does not override the breaker's safety functions

  • if an overcurrent or leakage fault is present, the breaker will trip again regardless of remote commands.
