Remote switching · how to turn breakers on/off

Hybird OS allows authorised users to remotely switch individual breakers on or off. This article explains how remote switching works and the safety considerations.

How to switch a breaker remotely

  • Log in to Hybird OS and navigate to the site and controller.

  • Select the breaker you want to switch.

  • Click the switch control to change the breaker's state (ON to OFF, or OFF to ON).

  • The command is sent via the internet to the controller, which relays it to the breaker via RS485.

  • The breaker state in Hybird OS updates to reflect the change. This typically takes a few seconds.

Requirements

  • The controller must be online and connected to Hybird OS.

  • The breaker must be communicating over RS485.

  • Your user account must have the appropriate permissions (Admin or Installer role).

Safety warnings

  • Verify before switching. Before remotely switching any breaker, confirm what load is connected to that circuit. Switching off a circuit powering critical equipment, safety systems, or active machinery can have serious consequences.

  • Communicate with on-site personnel. If anyone is on site, inform them before switching breakers remotely. Unexpected power changes can be dangerous, especially in industrial or commercial environments.

  • Do not use remote switching as a safety isolation method.

Remote switching is a convenience feature, not a safety isolation. For electrical work, always use proper lockout/tagout procedures at the panel, including the safety pin that is clearly labelled on each Hybird circuit breaker.

Audit logging

Every remote switching action is logged in Hybird OS with the user who initiated it, the timestamp, the breaker affected, and the state change (ON to OFF or OFF to ON). This audit trail is maintained for accountability and troubleshooting.

If remote switching does not work

If you issue a switch command and the breaker state does not change:

  • Check the controller is online (current "last seen" timestamp).

  • Check the breaker is reporting data (RS485 communication is working).

  • Check whether the physical breaker has been manually overridden.

  • Wait 30 seconds and check again · the command may be queued.

For persistent issues, see the Remote Switching Troubleshooting guide.
