Multi-controller site setup

For sites with more than 80 breakers, or with breakers distributed across physically separate panels, multiple Hybird Edge Controllers

should be used.

When to use multiple controllers

  • Exceeding 80 breakers: Each controller supports a maximum of

256 breakers on its modbus. But, it is suggested that sites requiring more than 80 monitored circuits should have additional controllers.

  • Separate panels: If breakers are in physically separate panels (different rooms, floors, or buildings), it is (almost always) simpler and cheaper to install a controller in each panel rather than running long RS485 cables between them.

Configuration in Hybird OS

In Hybird OS, each controller is registered under the same site. The data hierarchy is: Account → Site → Controller → Breakers. Multiple controllers under one site allow all data to be viewed together at the site level while maintaining separate controller-level views for each panel.

Each controller has its own independent RS485 bus and internet connection. Controllers do not communicate directly with each other - they each communicate independently with Hybird OS.

Network requirements

Each controller needs its own internet connection (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or LTE). If using Ethernet, each controller needs its own cable to the network switch. If using Wi-Fi, each controller connects independently to the Wi-Fi network.

Optimisation across controllers

For Hybird Optimisation, the platform coordinates switching schedules across all controllers at a site. The optimisation engine can work uniquely on a breaker level, and breakers can be configured independently.

Commissioning

Commission each controller independently: power it on, connect to the network, run a breaker scan, and verify all breakers report. Then verify in Hybird OS that both controllers appear under the correct site and all breakers across both controllers are visible.
