What a breaker set is
A breaker set is a named group of breakers in Hybird OS. Once breakers are grouped into a set, the platform can treat them as one unit. Breaker sets are the building block behind several features:
Switching together. Switch every breaker in the set on or off with a single command, instead of flipping them one by one.
Virtual metering. Tick the Virtual Meter option on a set and it appears in your Energy Meters list, aggregating the kWh consumption of every breaker in the set. See "Virtual meters: what they are and how to build one".
Alarms on groups. Alarms can apply to a group of breakers, so one alarm can watch a whole piece of equipment or zone.
Optimisation. Hybird Optimisation works through event-based triggering of breaker sets, so well-structured sets are a prerequisite for optimising your electricity use.
How to create one
In Hybird OS, create a new breaker set.
Give it a clear, descriptive name. Good names describe the equipment or purpose, for example "Kitchen refrigeration", "EV chargers", "Production line 2" or "Tenant, first floor". Avoid vague names like "Group 1", since the name is how you, your colleagues and the Hybird assistant will identify the set later.
Select the breakers that belong to the set. Make sure you include every circuit feeding the equipment or area the set represents, otherwise measurements and switching will only cover part of it.
If you want the set to act as an energy meter, tick the Virtual Meter option.
Why naming and labelling quality matters
Breaker sets are only as useful as their labels. When breakers and sets are clearly named after the machinery they feed, you can immediately answer questions like "which of these circuits is the cooling?" or "what serves the coffee machine?". Clear labelling also lets the Hybird assistant identify your critical machinery from your own descriptions, suggest sensible alarms, and report consumption for the right equipment. If your sets are inherited from installation with generic names, renaming them is a quick win.
Good to know
A breaker can belong to more than one set, so the same circuit can sit in a device-level set, a zone-level set and a tenant-level set at the same time.
Switching a set off de-energises everything downstream of every breaker in it. Check nothing critical is on those circuits before switching a whole set.
For scheduled switching of a set, use Timers rather than switching by hand.
Common questions
What is the difference between a breaker set and a virtual meter?
A virtual meter is a breaker set with the Virtual Meter option ticked. The set defines which breakers are grouped; the virtual meter option makes that group report aggregated consumption in your Energy Meters list.
Do I need a breaker set to see the consumption of my equipment?
Individual breakers report their own consumption, but if a device or area is fed by more than one circuit, a breaker set with the Virtual Meter option is the way to see the combined figure.
Can I switch several breakers at once?
Yes. Group them into a breaker set and switch the set. Every switch is recorded in the Events log with a timestamp, so you keep a full audit trail.
How many breaker sets can I have?
As many as you need. It is normal to run device-level, zone-level and tenant-level sets side by side.
