Hybird Edge Controller firmware is updated over-the-air (OTA) via Hybird OS. This article covers the update process.
How firmware updates work
Firmware updates are pushed from Hybird OS to the controller over its internet connection. The process is managed by Hybird - installers and customers do not need to initiate updates manually in most cases.
When updates happen
Firmware updates are deployed by Hybird when new features, bug fixes, or security patches are available. Updates are typically scheduled during low-activity periods to minimise disruption. The controller downloads the update, applies it, and restarts automatically.
Pre-update checks
Before an update is applied, verify:
The controller has a stable internet connection (Ethernet preferred for reliability during updates).
The controller is powered reliably - an interrupted update (e.g., due to power loss during the update) may require manual recovery.
If the site has an UPS, ensure the battery is charged to provide backup during the update.
During the update
The controller may restart during the update process. During this time (typically 1-3 minutes):
Breaker data will not be reported to Hybird OS.
Remote switching commands will not be processed.
The breakers themselves continue to function normally as circuit breakers - they just cannot communicate with the controller during the restart.
After the update
After the controller restarts, it reconnects to Hybird OS and resumes normal operation. Verify in Hybird OS that:
The controller's "last seen" timestamp is recent.
All breakers are reporting data.
The firmware version shown in Hybird OS matches the expected new version.
Manual firmware updates
In rare cases, a manual firmware update may be required (e.g., if OTA update fails, or if the controller is in a recovery state). Manual updates are performed by Hybird support. Contact [email protected] if a manual update is needed.
Rollback
If a firmware update causes issues, Hybird can roll back to the previous version. Contact support immediately if you observe abnormal behaviour after an update.
