Overview
Installing and servicing Hybird systems involves working with mains electrical supplies. This article outlines mandatory safety requirements and testing procedures to ensure safe installation and ongoing operation.
Mandatory qualifications
Only a licensed electrician is permitted to install, commission, or service Hybird systems. Installers must meet the usual region-specific electrical competence requirements (e.g. autoriseret elinstallatør in Denmark).
Installers must be familiar with:
Current national electrical regulations (Stærkstrømsbekendtgørelsen in Denmark, BS 7671 in the UK, VDE 0100 in Germany, etc.)
Safe isolation procedures for switchboards and control panels
Commissioning procedures specific to Hybird breakers and controllers
Isolation requirements before installation
Hybird installation must always be performed with the panel de-energised, except when simply scanning QR codes. Before any installation or maintenance work:
Switch off and isolate the main incoming supply to the panel.
Verify that the supply is de-energised using a test meter. Confirm zero volts across all live and neutral terminals.
If the panel is in a multi-phase installation, ensure all phases are isolated and tested.
Apply a lockable isolation device and a "Do Not Switch On" notice at the isolation point.
Live work on Hybird components is not permitted.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
No additional PPE is required for Hybird installation beyond the usual PPE required for electrical installation work in your region. Follow your local competence requirements.
Torque specifications — power terminals
Correct tightening torque ensures secure connections and prevents fire risk:
Breakers up to 25A: 2 Nm
Breakers 25–80A: 3.5 Nm
Use a calibrated torque wrench. Apply torque smoothly.
RS485 terminals (Modbus plug)
The Modbus plug connecting the breakers to the Edge Controller is a push-in connector tightened by hand. No specific torque value is required — tighten to hand-felt firmness.
Testing after installation
Before putting the panel into service, perform the standard electrical tests required by your region's regulations. Follow the relevant local code (Stærkstrømsbekendtgørelsen, BS 7671, etc.) for required test values.
Firmware updates
Firmware updates on the controller are performed while the panel is energised. Firmware updates are delivered over the air by Hybird HQ and typically complete in less than 5 minutes.
Ongoing maintenance safety
Regular inspection: Visually inspect the panel periodically for signs of overheating, corrosion, or loose connections.
No live work: Never adjust or remove a breaker while the circuit is energised.
Record keeping: Keep records of installation dates, commissioning tests, and any maintenance or repair work performed.
Emergency procedures
In case of electrical fire or fault:
If safe to do so, de-energise the circuit or panel immediately using the main switch.
If fire is present, use a Class C (dry powder) fire extinguisher if available. Do not use water on an electrical fire.
Call emergency services (112 in the EU).
Do not re-energise the panel until the fault has been investigated by a qualified electrician.
In case of electric shock:
Do not touch the person if they are still in contact with the live conductor.
De-energise the circuit immediately using the main switch or isolation point.
Once safe, administer first aid if trained to do so.
Call emergency services immediately, even if the person appears to recover.
CE certification and safety standards
Hybird systems are CE and RoHS certified, covering both EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and LVD (low voltage directive) requirements. Certificate copies are available on request from [email protected].
Summary
Safe installation and maintenance of Hybird systems requires proper regional electrical competence, full isolation before work, and correct torque on power terminals (2 Nm up to 25A, 3.5 Nm from 25-80A). Follow your local electrical code for testing and PPE requirements. If in doubt, contact [email protected].
