For Hybird to monitor and optimise your electrical system, the Edge Controller at your site needs a reliable internet connection. This article covers the network requirements.
Internet connectivity options
The Hybird Edge Controller supports three connection types, used in a fallback sequence:
Ethernet (recommended): The most reliable option. Connect the controller to your network switch or router with a standard Ethernet cable. The controller uses DHCP by default to obtain an IP address.
Wi-Fi: If Ethernet is not available at the panel location, the controller can connect via Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi network must have internet access.
LTE: The controller includes a built-in LTE modem as a last-resort fallback. This requires an active SIM card and data plan (passed through to the customer at cost (typically approximately 40 DKK/month)).
Network requirements
The controller needs:
Outbound internet access:The controller initiates all connections outbound. It does not require any inbound ports to be opened or any port forwarding.
DHCP (default):The controller requests an IP address via DHCP. Static IP configuration is possible if required - contact Hybird support.
DNS resolution:The controller must be able to resolve DNS names to connect to Hybird OS cloud services.
Bandwidth: Data usage is minimal - typically under 800 MB per controller per month, depending on the number of connected breakers. The controller transmits small measurement packets every few seconds. LTE data is billed separately from the service subscription.
Firewall and proxy
If your site uses a corporate firewall or proxy, ensure that the controller can reach Hybird's cloud services. Contact Hybird support for the specific domains and ports that need to be allowed.
Physical access
For installation and maintenance visits, the installer or Hybird technician will need physical access to your electrical panel. Please ensure:
Someone is available to provide access at the scheduled time.
Any keys, codes, or access cards needed to reach the panel are available.
The panel area is accessible and well-lit, with sufficient space to work.
