Controller network configuration (advanced)

The Hybird Edge Controller uses DHCP by default and requires no manual network configuration in most installations. This article covers advanced networking scenarios.

Default configuration

Out of the box, the controller:

  • Requests an IP address via DHCP on its Ethernet port.

  • Falls back to Wi-Fi if Ethernet is not connected.

  • Falls back to LTE if Wi-Fi is unavailable.

  • Uses standard DNS resolution to reach Hybird OS cloud services.

  • Initiates all connections outbound - no inbound ports or port forwarding are required.

Static IP assignment

If the site's network requires a static IP address (common in corporate environments with managed switches), this can be configured. Contact Hybird support to configure a static IP on the controller. You will need to provide:

  • The desired IP address.

  • Subnet mask.

  • Default gateway.

  • DNS server address(es).

DNS requirements

The controller must be able to resolve DNS names to connect to Hybird OS. If the site uses a local DNS server, ensure it can resolve external domains. If DNS is restricted, contact Hybird support for the specific domains that need to be resolvable.

Firewall rules

The controller communicates with Hybird OS over standard HTTPS (port 443). If the site has a firewall, ensure outbound HTTPS traffic is permitted. Contact Hybird support for the specific IP addresses or domain names to whitelist if the firewall uses allowlists.

Proxy servers

If the site routes all internet traffic through a proxy server, contact Hybird support to configure the controller's proxy settings. Provide the proxy address, port, and any authentication credentials required.

Wi-Fi configuration

Wi-Fi credentials are configured during commissioning. If the site's Wi-Fi network name (SSID) or password changes, the controller's Wi-Fi settings must be updated. Contact Hybird support or use the controller's local configuration interface (if available) to update Wi-Fi credentials.

LTE configuration

LTE is available on all Hybird Edge Controllers. It requires an active SIM card with a data plan (passed through to the customer at cost (typically approximately 40 DKK/month)). APN settings are pre-configured for the supplied SIM. If using a different SIM, contact Hybird support to configure the correct APN.
